“I’ve missed more than 9,000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. 26 times I’ve been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.”
Michael Jordan, NBA Hall of Fame basketball player
Our capacity to weather challenges and overcome adversity undoubtedly defines how happy and successful we become in life. Whatever their background or circumstances, every young person can benefit from developing their grit and resilience.
The Resilience Box has been created by media and medical professionals as an easy-to-use tool for educational settings. Each of the research-led resources in the box has been designed to help your students embrace adversity as an opportunity to learn and grow.
These award-winning resources utilise behaviour change techniques to give students more than just motivation. We believe that change starts when you combine information and advice with the tools to take action - that’s what you’ll find inside every Resilience Box.
One box. Many benefits.
For Students
Student Health Guide, the underlying resource for students, is available online 24/7 for anonymous access. Printed copies of the magazine, along with thought-provoking posters and postcards, provide a physical call-to-action.
However your students choose to access the resources, you can rest assured that they will be getting robust, medically accurate information and advice about mental and physical health, relationships, fitness, diet and life.
We work with a range of subject matter experts, and provide signposting to further reading and recognised support services for those in crisis. Although the primary goal of these resources is to build resilience, we help ensure those who need to seek help don’t delay and promote peer intervention, helping friends better support each other through the ups and downs of life.
For Educators
We know that educators are struggling with limited resources, time and budget. Settings often spend so much time reacting to student needs that the benefits of being proactive are hard to realise.
The Resilience Box was created so that schools and colleges can easily implement a proactive health and well-being initiative, helping students manage challenges from exam stress to family breakdown and everything in between.
Educators have the peace of mind that The Resilience Box contains award winning resources developed by medical professionals, in conjunction with subject matter experts such as NSPCC and Brook.
The Resilience Box costs £250+VAT with the option to purchase top-up resources, such as additional printed magazines. The digital elements come with a 12-month licence and can be renewed annually by purchasing a new box.

The digital edition is accessible 24/7, can be embedded on your school website or linked from intranet, Moodle or newsletters and used in lessons, so students, staff, parents and other stakeholders can access the information whenever they need to across the entire year.
Posters & postcards
The Resilience Box contains a number of high quality eye-catching printed posters and postcards to help you direct your students to the digital edition by QR code. The posters can be put in high traffic areas such as classrooms, halls or in changing rooms, whereas the post cards allow you to give students something to take away and access the resource at home. The assets are thought-provoking and eye-catching and link in with the themes and advice provided in the resources.
Educator Success Kit
We want you to get the very best out of The Resilience Box assets so we have put together a handy printed spiral-bound booklet giving you tips and guidance on how to most the most out of your investment, including some case studies from other organisations, plus a series of lesson plans if you chose to incorporate The Resilience Box assets into your PSHE curriculum.
Student Health Guide (SHG)
SHG sits at the heart of The Resilience Box. Continually improved through consultation and feedback over the past 7 years, the team behind SHG have now reached the perfect formula to balance the needs of both educators and students.
Covering topics around mental health, physical health, diet, fitness and relationships, together with lifestyle/social topics such as making a good first impression, getting a job and how to make friends, SHG is the go-to for advice, guidance and signposting for young people (and has been coined the ‘Life Handbook’ by students themselves!).
But it’s not just an eye-catching magazine-style resource. It has been carefully designed and written in a way to encourage behaviour change and improve the resilience and self-esteem of students. And this year, the education industry has acknowledged its value by awarding us the Teach Secondary Award for the Health & Wellbeing category.
FROM THE GP’S SURGERY
The vast majority of the teenagers I see in clinic who present minor health issues have an underlying cause or contributory factor. For example, the effects of exam stress can be hard for young people to cope with, but treatment with better sleep, improved diet and physical exercise can often be as effective as prescribing medication.
Most health issues are interlinked, which is why I believe it’s so important to provide holistic information and advice about health and wellbeing. With a solid understanding of how to improve their health and where and when to go to seek help, young people will feel empowered and confident to tackle the difficult issues in their life.

Annually, every January. The advice doesn’t change much, and the audience is transient, so it makes sense to put everything into a great resource once a year, rather than creating monthly editions which will either lack the same quality as we can produce annually, or drive the cost up.
-
The sweet spot is typically 14–18-year-olds but very often, some young people older and younger will benefit depending on maturity, so it could be widened to 11-19 years, too.
-
Both print and digital resources have their use, so it made sense to ensure The Resilience Box is useful to all. Our printed Success Kit demonstrates loads of ways to effectively deploy both the print and digital versions, to ensure that it gets in front of students, staff, parents and other stakeholders.
Print is perfect for the most at-risk and those with accessibility needs, whereas the digital version allows you to share it far and wide to staff, parents and other stakeholders in an easy and cost-effective way.

The printed resources are printed on FSC paper and, together with all other paper-based products which form The Resilience Box (including the packaging box itself!), are fully recyclable.

We run a reader survey every year which gives us trends in data nationally. After the first full year following the launch of The Resilience Box, we will provide all participating organisations a report to record these insights.
